The Chapel of Leon, Aragon and Portugal, Saint John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta, Malta
St John’s Co-Cathedral (Kon-Katidral ta’ San Ġwann) is a Roman Catholic co-cathedral in Valletta, Malta, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. It has been commissioned as the Conventual Church of Saint John (Knisja Konventwali ta’ San Ġwann) by Grand Master Jean de la Cassière în 1572 and built by the Order of St. John between 1572 and 1577, under the guidance of the famous Maltese architect Girolamo Cassar.
In the 17th century, its interior was redecorated in the Baroque style by Mattia Preti and other artists, making it one of the finest examples of high Baroque architecture.
